The Red Fort is situated on the banks of the River Yamuna. The monument in Delhi has a circumference of over 2.2 kilometers. With the ambition of concentrating the Mughal power in one monument, the Mughal emperor Shajahan planned to built it. The fort is a delight to one's imagination. The Fort rises above a wide dry moat in the northeast corner of the original city of Shahjahanabad, now Old Delhi. Its walls extend from 2 kms and vary in height from 18 m on the river side to 33 m on the city side.
The monument comprises of Naqqar Khana, which is also called Naubat Khana, where once drums loudly heralded the arrival of the emperor.Chatta Chowk, once the market of the Delhi's most talented jewelers, carpet makers, weavers and goldsmiths, provides the main entrance to the Delhi Red Fort. This market now mainly houses jewelry and ornaments for the purpose of the tourists.Other attractions of the Red fort of Delhi include Hamaam (Royal bath), Shahi Burj (Shah Jahan's private working area), Rang Mahal (Palace of Colors) etc. The Rang Mahal served as the palace of the wives and mistresses of the Emperor. Gild turrets, mirror work and gold and silver covered ceiling adorn the palace.
At the monument you can see the Diwan-e-Am, resounded with the incantations of the people. Other attractions of this monument in Delhi are the Mumtaz Mahal, Rang Mahal, Khas Mahal, Diwan-e Khas, the Hammam and Shah Burj. The entrance of the fort leads to Delhi's most crowded bazaar, Chandni Chowk.Old Delhi tour would introduce you to the ancient history of the Old fort or the Purana Quila. In 1538, the Mughal emperor Humayun laid foundations of the city named Dinpanah. The inner citadel of this city is today called Purana Quila or the Old Fort. This monument in Delhi has three gates - Humayun Darwaza, Talaqi Darwaza and Bara Darwaza. The present entrance is the Bara Darwaza, an imposing red sandstone gate on the western wall. Inside this monument in Delhi you can find the Sher Mandal, a two-storied octagonal pavilion in red sandstone, built by Sher Shah. Delhi tour covers many other interesting places, which are a part of the cultural heritage of India.
